The award for the best end of degree project dealing with the advanced manufacturing sector has been won by Enrique García Martínez, an engineering student at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, for his project titled "Experimental analysis and finite element simulation of technological factors present in the cylinder forming process of the copper-nickel alloy 40/30 ASTM B122". The project, highly relevant to the field of advanced manufacturing, compares real tests on the machining process with the simulation of the process. The project is very comprehensive, complete and contains a noteworthy level of detail. It takes into consideration the favourable conditions for the minimisation of energy consumption in the machining process. The project is very complete and worthy of recognition.
This prestigious annual award is made possible by the collaboration between AFM CLUSTER and SIF (Manufacturing Engineering Society). By sponsoring this award, both organisations attempt to encourage engineering students to prepare end of degree projects on subjects that relate to advanced manufacturing.
AFM CLUSTER is an organisation that represents the interests of advanced and digital manufacturing in Spain, comprising five associations that include over 500 companies. Among its most important strategic challenges is the recruitment of talent for the sector, which has been the target of several initiatives that it has undertaken. In addition to the award referred to above, it prepares and delivers presentations to university students and vocational training centres to convey the advantages that the advanced manufacturing sector holds for their professional careers. It also organises the most important industrial employment trade show in Spain, WORKINN, in conjunction with the BEC, and manages the international Global Training grants of the Basque Government for graduates.
The SIF, or Manufacturing Engineering Society, is an association dedicated to developing and promoting manufacturing engineering and comprises the majority of Spanish universities involved in the field of manufacturing.
