The Industry 4.0 philosophy has been fully embraced in the Gipuzkoa-based company Couth Industrial Marking Systems, according to José Antonio Erdozia, CEO of the business, which is headquartered in Hernani and has subsidiaries on three continents. Since its foundation in 1954, Couth has been manufacturing industrial traceability systems using micro-percussion, scribing and laser technology and, throughout its long trajectory, it has always believed in innovation to help its customers make their production processes efficient.
This commitment to Industry 4.0 culminates with the acquisition this year of the Catalan company E2M, which “enables us to combine the use of artificial intelligence and predictive models,” Erdozia says. “The acquisition of E2M Couth brings us directly into the Industry 4.0 philosophy. Using and combining traceability systems with artificial vision systems allows us to help our users to cut costs but not quality in their production processes and improve the efficiency of these processes,” he explains.
Couth works for sectors as diverse as the automotive, oil and gas, metalworking, railway and aeronautics industries and 83% of its turnover corresponds to foreign markets. The aim now, according to Erdozia, is “not only to sell through our international distributors, but through our subsidiaries”. In fact, the company has set up its own facilities in China, Mexico and Germany and plans to open a new subsidiary in Italy in the coming weeks “to be much closer to our clients.” Erdozia concludes.
