DIGIVACH PROJECT: EXPLOITING DATA IN THE VALUE CHAIN COMES TO AN END

15 March, 2024The DIGIVaCh project, led by Etxetar and with the participation of a large group of Basque companies, focused on applying data science to enable collaborative exploitation in the advanced manufacturing value chain through the intelligent and interoperable management of digital models, has come to an end.

Data science is a discipline that has been developing for years. Although it has gained prominence in recent years, it is a concept that was first coined in the 1960s. Since the birth of the 4.0 paradigm, many companies have undertaken initiatives to collect data in their workshops and plants, process it, analyse it using advanced techniques and exploit it to make decisions or to generate new or better products and services. However, both experts and major consultancy firms agree that horizontal integration in the value chain is a pending issue for the industry.

The DIGIVaCh project consortium strongly believes that data sharing in the value chain is a way to generate value for companies. It is certain that many of the problems occurring in manufacturing plants and workshops have not been solved because the right data is not available.

The DIGIVaCh project has therefore revolved around three axioms:
"The solution to my problems may not be inside my company, but outside", "My data may be misleading me and giving me a biased or partial view of the situation".
"My data may be misleading me and giving me a biased or partial view of the situation".
"Competition today is not between companies, but between value chains".

DIGIVaCh has embraced these three axioms and has brought them to the Basque Country and, more specifically, to a consortium made up of leading companies in their markets such as Etxetar, Fagor Ederlan, Fagor Automation, Microdeco, Izadi Mecanizados, Talleres Aratz, Zubiola, Industrias Mail, Aingura IIoT and Savvy Data Systems. In addition, the project has been coordinated by AFM, seeking to incorporate the transversal vision of the machine tool industry in the Basque Country. It has also involved the participation of relevant research entities in the Basque Country such as Mondragon Unibertsitatea, IMH, Vicomtech, Ikergune, Aotek, Edertek and Invema.
