Gipuzkoa-based cooperative Fagor Arrasate has incorporated a laser cutting technology for metal coil that substitutes traditional press cutting. This will enable it to optimise its offering and access new markets such as electric vehicles, which is expected to bring a boost in sales of between 10 and 15 million for 2024.
The Mondragon Group company explained today that this new technology is very useful in processes that do not call for high production flows, such as electromobility. The advantages it provides compared with traditional methods include a reduced need for space, since it can be installed without cranes or high ceilings.
It also generates less waste in the coil treatment process, which, in turn, brings down production costs by making maximum use of the material. The cooperative, headquartered in Arrasate, added that laser cutting is very flexible and adapts quickly to changes in production needs and parts materials, as well as avoiding stoppages because it doesn't require die changes.
The Arrasate-based cooperative points out that the laser cutting technology used belongs to another of the Mondragon Group cooperatives, DanobatGroup, which has collaborated with Fagor Arrasate within the framework of an agreement reached by both companies a number of years ago aimed at identifying possible areas of cooperation to boost market competitiveness.
