Geminis Lathes has reached an agreement with the Saudi Aramco oil company, considered one of the largest and most profitable companies in the world, for the supply, installation and commissioning of five units of equipment in an operation valued at more than five million euros.
The equipment included in this new contract is destined for the mega port of Ras Al-Khair. This complex is expected to be the largest of its kind in the world, covering more than 11 Km2 of shipbuilding and repair facilities, workshops, warehouses, public services, offices, housing and recreational facilities. The Geminis lathes will be used to carry out machining and maintenance operations for propulsion shafts of ships and freighters, as well as other types of parts in the shipyards of the Rey Salman international complex for maritime industries and services.
The agreement stems from the existing collaboration between the two companies. Geminis Lathes is currently installing a machine to maintain the infrastructure of the Al Juaima'h oil extraction complex. It is a lathe that will carry out machining work for turbines, generators, compressors and pumping equipment installed in the different Saudi plants.
With this important order, Geminis Lathes fully enters to position itself as a supplier to the largest oil company in the world. In the words of Edorta Arriet, Commercial Director of Geminis Lathes, “When we started the negotiations we believed that it would not be easy to get the order. However, we have managed to be the first national machine tool manufacturer to enter Saudi Aramco plants. With this contract, we have also managed to guarantee part of the Geminis Lathes activity for the year, since it represents 25% of the total turnover for 2020”.
