At Hepyc, they have developed and improved both the geometry and the level of surface finish to achieve the least possible friction and increase performance, as well as the quality of the threads produced. Their males are specially designed from the following particular characteristics:
- Manufactured in top quality powder metallurgical steels (HSSE-PM).
- Latest generation surface coatings and polishing treatments to achieve the least possible friction.
- Special design of faces and vertices of the polygon to achieve the least possible friction.
- Shorter thread lengths than cutting taps to reduce torsional stress.
- Greasing grooves to ensure correct lubrication necessary in threads from 1.5xD.
- Increased tolerances "X" to compensate wear and increase the useful life of the tool.
Roll taps, unlike cutting taps, form the thread from the deformation of the material. In recent years, its use has grown exponentially due to the advantages they provide regarding cutting, coupled with new possibilities in terms of materials and the effort of development and improvement by tool manufacturers.
The main advantages of lamination taps compared to cutting taps, are summarized in:
- No shavings are produced.
- Same tap for blind and through holes.
- Possibility of threading blind holes up to 4xD.
- Higher performance and cutting speed.
- Same tap for a wide range of materials as long as they have a minimum elongation of 10-12% and a maximum resistance of 1,200 N / mm2.
- Greater resistance to tearing and fatigue of the threads produced.
On the contrary, it is necessary to take into account a series of requirements:
- Greater torque (100-200%) compared to the cutting taps.
- Importance of pre-drilling: greater diameter and precision than in cutting taps.
- Need for abundant and constant lubrication.
