Additive manufacturing and 3D printing are a reality that is revolutionising processes in many different activity fields and sectors. Only 2 or 3 of the world leaders had addressed the machining of parts obtained by additive processes, in the same machine, until now.
IBARMIA has decided to form part of that exclusive group, incorporating addition by laser cladding to its 5-axis multi-process machines, creating the ADD+PROCESS family. In this machine, and after obtaining the gross geometry by addition, the parts are machined in the same machine and even in the same bundle. Thus, the machine becomes an independent production centre, in which we obtain the finished part from nothing.
The process can be applied to manufacture prototypes and single parts, as well as to recover/repair very high-value parts. The extensive strokes of the IBARMIA mobile column centres are an invitation to use additive manufacturing in large-sized and therefore more costly parts. A 3kW laser source is used for the addition process, which permits attaining high deposition rates, and obtaining geometries that are close to the final objective.
