LAZPIUR IS INVITED TO THE GLASGOW CONGRESS TO PRESENT NEW TRENDS IN FORGING

The Basque company has made recent advances in the manufacture of tooling for cold forging, which, due to its precision, leads the final user to significant saving in manufacturing costs.

Lazpiur is consolidating itself as a benchmark in the sector, after being last year the only manufacturer of forging tools invited to the IFC in Berlin.

The latest advances recently achieved by Lazpiur in the cold forging field led the organisers of the 13th International Cold Forming Congress, held in Glasgow in September, to invite the Basque company to present the new trends in the sector.

Lazpiur has broadened its range of cold forging products in recent months with new types of dies based on advanced technologies. Among the advantages achieved is the manufacturing cost saving, which can be of special benefit in the automotive sector. For this reason, the Congress organisers have requested the representatives of the Bergara firm to explain the latest trends.

Lazpiur was able to take up the challenge of manufacturing this type of high technical difficulty tooling, thanks to the experience it has accumulated over many years in the manufacture of tools made out of  very hard, high speed steels (67 HrC), and with high accuracy. These parts, in addition to precision, require a highly polished finish and a strict control of their geometry.

In short, these new innovations help customers comply with one of the current trends in the automotive sector called ‘net shaping’, where conforming and finished parts of high complexity are sought that do not need subsequent machining operations. This means there is a considerable saving when manufacturing these types of parts.

Another advance made with this forming technology is in the improvement of the part performance. During the process, an internal grain structure is created in the part which remains intact as no subsequent machining is required. The parts are therefore more durable.

Glasgow congress

The Glasgow International Cold Forming Congress (ICFC) has invited Lazpiur to present the latest innovations in the sector. On 2 September, Ainhoa Ondarra and Juan Vicente Bengoa from the tooling division are scheduled to take part with a presentation entitled ‘Trends in the manufacture of forging tooling’.

This invitation confirms Lazpiur as a benchmark in the sector at an international level, after it attended the International Forging Congress (IFC) in Berlin last year, where it was the only company in the sector at a global level to be invited to present the tooling innovations.

The Glasgow Congress has been held since 1955 every five years, and alternates its headquarters between Germany and the United Kingdom. It is organised by the Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) of the University of Strathclyde. This is one of the seven elite centres that make up the British Government's programme that seeks to encourage commitment to R&D in the industry. In addition to the University and the British Government, multinationals such as Aubert & Duval, Barnes, Boeing, Rolls-Royce and Timet are involved.
