TAPPING SCREWS FOR STAINLESS STEEL FROM HEPYC

Hepyc’s taps of the INOX series are specially designed to obtain the maximum performance in materials with the following characteristics:

- Reinforced structure to improve its mechanical resistance.
- Special design of grooves and more aggressive cutting geometry for greater chip evacuation and, consequently, of the generated heat.
- Vaporized surface treatment, such as anti-slip or TiN coating to increase hot resistance.
- Latest technology at the level of micro finishing geometry (Microfinish) to maximize the life of the tool.

In addition, they have two reference groups:

• Refs. 2119 to 2122 with vaporized surface treatment.
• Refs. 2219 to 2222 with TiN surface coating.

Stainless steels are iron and carbon alloys with a minimum content of 10.5% chromium. In a first group, we find the ferritic and martensitic, according to the dominant metallographic structure. In a second group, we find the austenitic and duplex, which are the ones with the highest chromium content and incorporate a minimum of 7% nickel as well as other elements such as molybdenum.

Stainless steels are characterized by good mechanical resistance and especially corrosion. In addition, austenitics and duplexes also provide good thermal resistance. But these appreciable properties act in reverse during the machining process, complicating it, especially when the low thermal conductivity of the material causes an excess of heat that affects the tool.
