THE EEA GRANTS FINANCIAL MECHANISM SUPPORTS GORATU MAQUINAS HERRAMIENTA’S WAGER FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING

Goratu Máquinas Herramienta has received aid from the EEA Grants European Financial Mechanism to design an additive machine prototype.

Goratu Máquinas Herramienta is working on the design of an additive machine prototype. There are several definitions of additive manufacturing. ASTM, for example, defines Additive Manufacturing as “the process to combine materials to create 3D objects based on the 3D CAD model, normally layer by layer, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing methodologies” (ISO 17296-1 ASTM 2792-12). One of the main advantages it offers is the great environmental impact of this technology: on the one hand, it represents a reduction in raw materials, and on the other, a reduction in energy consumption. It is estimated that savings of over 70% in material, energy consumption and cost could be achieved with this new technology.

The aid has been granted within the second EEA Grant call. The EEA Grants are co-financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Their objective is to reduce the economic and social difference in the European Economic Area, as well as foster bilateral relations among donor states and beneficiary states. The EEA Grant aids are available for the 13 countries that formed part of the European Economic Area in 2004, 2007 and 2013, as well as countries from Southern Europe (Spain, Greece and Portugal).

Thanks to the aid granted by the EEA Grants Financial Mechanism, Goratu Máquinas Herramienta is working on the development of solutions with a high environmental impact, seeking profitable alternatives to traditional manufacturing methods.
